Not every collection case needs our service
When you contact us with your debt collection case, you may not become our client.
The way we practice is quite simple and its been the foundation of our success. Fortunately we have enough business that we are always busy. So every time a new potential client contacts us, we first try and see if there is a way that they can solve their collection problem themselves and thereby save attorney’s fees. We understand that people are in business to make a profit and not to support us. So, when anyone contacts us, we discuss possible ways to see if they can collect the money that is owed without hiring our services.
Explore these options first
Here are a few collection tactics you should consider. Not everyone knows that the maximum amount for a Small Claims Action is $7,000.00, and the filing fee for the Court, depends on the size of the claim. Read about Small Claims.
So, if the amount of your claim for example is $8,000.00, you are better off just suing for $7,000.00, because you would save the attorney’s fees, and file your claim as a Small Claims action.
Another tactic to collect a debt yourself, is to send the debtor a certified mailed letter, and stating that if you do not receive the amount that is owed by a certain date, that you are going to turn the matter over to a lawyer with instructions to do whatever is necessary to collect the debt. Such letters have more effect when you actually name the Law Firm in the body of the letter, and “cc” the Law Firm on the letter. That way, the debtor knows you are serious. That kind of letter should be your last and final attempt to obtain collection yourself, before turning it over to our Office for assistance.
We understand that if you contact us, you may not need to hire us, and that’s okay with us if our discussion was helpful for you to collect the debt yourself.
